Pixplain ("we", "our", or "us") is committed to protecting your privacy. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application and related services.

1. Information We Collect

1.1 Account Information

When you create an account, we collect:

  • Email address - Used for account identification and communication
  • Name - Used to personalize your experience
  • Profile picture - Optional, used to personalize your account

If you sign in using Google or Apple, we receive basic profile information from these services as authorized by you.

1.2 User Content

We collect and store content you create or upload, including:

  • Flashcard decks and cards you create
  • PDF documents you upload for processing
  • Photos you take or upload for text extraction
  • YouTube URLs and web links you submit for content extraction
  • Study session data and progress

1.3 Usage Data

We automatically collect certain information about how you use the app:

  • Study statistics (cards reviewed, streaks, performance)
  • Feature usage patterns
  • App crashes and error logs
  • Device type and operating system version

1.4 Subscription Information

If you subscribe to Pixplain Pro or Ultimate, we receive subscription status information from Apple's App Store. We do not directly process or store your payment information.

2. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Provide, maintain, and improve our services
  • Process your uploaded content to generate flashcards and visual infographics
  • Track your study progress and provide personalized recommendations
  • Send study reminders (if you enable notifications)
  • Respond to your support requests
  • Analyze usage patterns to improve the app
  • Enforce our terms and prevent abuse

3. AI Processing

Pixplain uses artificial intelligence to enhance your learning experience. When you upload content or create flashcards:

  • Content Processing: Your uploaded PDFs, photos, and links are processed using AI models to extract text and generate question-answer pairs.
  • Visual Generation: AI generates educational infographics based on your flashcard content to aid visual learning.
  • Personalization: Your learning level preference is used to adjust the complexity and style of generated content.

AI processing is performed by third-party providers (see Section 4). Your content is used solely for generating your flashcards and is not used to train AI models.

4. Third-Party Services

We use trusted third-party services to operate Pixplain. Each service has its own privacy practices:

4.1 Clerk (Authentication)

We use Clerk to manage user authentication. Clerk processes your email, name, and profile picture to provide secure sign-in functionality.

4.2 Convex (Database & Storage)

We use Convex to store your account data, flashcards, study progress, and uploaded files. Data is stored securely in the cloud with encryption at rest.

4.3 OpenRouter & Google (AI Processing)

We use OpenRouter as an API gateway to access Google's Gemini AI models for text processing and image generation. Your content is processed by these services to generate flashcards and infographics but is not retained for model training.

4.4 RevenueCat (Subscriptions)

We use RevenueCat to manage in-app subscriptions. RevenueCat receives subscription events from Apple's App Store to track your subscription status.

4.5 Supadata (Content Extraction)

We use Supadata to extract transcripts from YouTube videos and content from web pages that you submit for flashcard generation.

5. Data Retention

We retain your data for as long as your account is active. Specifically:

  • Account data: Retained until you delete your account
  • Flashcards and decks: Retained until you delete them or your account
  • Uploaded files (PDFs, photos): Processed and stored only as long as needed to generate flashcards, then may be deleted
  • Study statistics: Retained to show your progress history

When you delete your account, all associated data is permanently removed from our systems within 30 days.

6. Data Security

We implement appropriate technical and organizational measures to protect your data:

  • All data transmission uses TLS/SSL encryption
  • Data is encrypted at rest in our database
  • Access to user data is restricted to authorized personnel
  • We regularly review and update our security practices

While we strive to protect your data, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure. We cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Your Rights

Depending on your location, you may have certain rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
  • Correction: Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your data (you can delete your account in the app settings)
  • Export: Request a copy of your data in a portable format
  • Opt-out: Disable study reminder notifications at any time

8. Children's Privacy

Pixplain is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have collected information from a child under 13, please contact us immediately.

The "Young Learner" option in our app is intended to adjust content complexity for younger users (ages 8-12) who are using the app with parental supervision, not to target or collect data from children.

9. International Data Transfers

Your data may be processed and stored in countries outside your own, including the United States, where our service providers are located. By using Pixplain, you consent to such transfers. We ensure appropriate safeguards are in place for any international transfers.

10. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of significant changes by posting a notice in the app or sending you an email. Your continued use of Pixplain after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
